In the Bahamas, unlike other Caribbean nations, we do not have a patois or a separate language. What we do have, is what I affectionately refer to as Bahamianese; unique words or phrases that only Bahamians or someone familiar with the culture would understand. Two seemingly innocuous foods that do not go together at all. There is nothing even remotely appealing about this food combination. Savory, delectable, flaky hot patty with cold chocolate dairy? But Hot Pattie and chocolate milk has been branded into my memory. The insignia of it illuminates one of my fondest memories and perhaps greatest life lesson.

This is one of my favorite quotes. One of the formative quotes that have shaped my life and driven my mentality. This quote is so profound in the obvious that you may overlook it.

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never harm me; is the biggest lie ever fabricated. The sticks, the stones, the broken bones, they all eventually heal and fade away, but the words, especially if they are negative, the words stay forever. The negative words haunt us. They stalk like predators hiding in the shadow. The negative words hold the weight of a million pounds. The negative words oppress us.

My brother is one of the most phenomenal men that I know, and I am not just saying that, because he is my brother. Anyone who has spent more than one minute in presence will attest to this. He is the most unassuming person who operates in quiet confidence and grace. He speaks very little, but when he does his words are weighted in wisdom. His charitable personality is only surpassed by his love for his family. Seriously, he is the gold standard of what a man should be.

Every birth is intentional. The circumstances of conception and birth do not matter. What matters is that you are here. That you were born. Your birth signifies purpose.

Today, I had to keep the promise I made to myself. Every day I told myself, I would do it tomorrow. But tomorrow never came. This weekend, it became next weekend, which became next month, next year. Here I am years later, keeping the promise I made to myself in 2009.

In the still dark moments of the night, when we close our eyes, we all see it, we all dream about it. When life becomes too overwhelming and when we want to escape reality, we even visualize it. What is the "it"? "It" is that secret desire of your heart.

Yesterday morning, I had a plan. I had a meeting in the morning, then running some routine errands. I was all set. On my way to the meeting, I got a call from Federal Express, the delivery person was on my Street trying to locate my House. That was my first irritant; why didn't you call the night before and schedule a delivery time. Urggh!!! The package he had was something I was waiting on for about 2 weeks. I cut my meeting short, abandoned my plans, and drove back to my home. From there, my day just derailed.

So, you have read my post so far, and as you read it you were captivated. You felt inspired and empowered. Your mind was stimulated. You felt the elusive familiarity of hope, knocking on the door of your heart. It was great, you got the "tingles", you are full of emotion. You shut down the computer in expectation, ready to jump, and then at that moment; in those 60 seconds, you look around you and you allowed "reality" to set in.

Why haven't you done anything? Why haven't you applied? Why haven't you looked for that grant to go to School? What haven't you started writing that book, taken that class, gotten up, and exercised? Why are you in the same position? Imprisoned in the situation that has you bound.
